How do I register?    

For both football and cheer, you must register online. Please see our Registration page for the MTJM registration link. Once completed, you will receive a confirmation email. MTJM will also be notified.

Is my son/daughter eligible?

All players must meet the Age / Weight limits in order to certify by final certification date set by SYF (beginning of Sept). Age for Jr. Pee Wees is 6, 7, and 8, and the Birthday cut-off for all levels is August 1st. Player weight will determine position eligibility, i.e. skilled player, X-Man. Any player weighing heavier than the skilled player weight will then be certified to participate as an X-Man only. See rules below.

What are the age and weight limits for the 2017 season?

8U   Ages 6-8 *104lbs
10U Ages 9-10 *150lbs
12U Ages11 - 12 *176lbs
14U Ages 12 - 14 Unlimited (All 8th graders must play at Midget level. High school players ineligible)

SP = Skilled Player, Eligible to participate anywhere on the field of play.  *X-Man = A player weighing more than the SP weights. Eligible to participate on the offensive line in a 3-4 point stance, must play Center, Guard or Tackle. Eligible to participate on the Defensive line in a 3-4 point stance, must be positioned head up or inside the offensive end of the line of scrimmage; may advance the ball during a fumble or interception. May participate on Kick off and Kick off return teams on the front line only. X-Man will wear a jersey number in the 60s, 70s, so as to be easily recognizable to the officials. X-Man are allowed to be punter and kicker on special teams.

What is the refund policy?

I understand that upon completion of registration $75 of my paid registration fees is non-refundable to offset administrative costs of registration.  Any participant dismissed for behavior issues is not entitled to any refund.  Furthermore, fees paid do not guarantee my child a position on any Monterey Trail Jr Mustang Football Team or Cheer Squad.

I have registered my child, what do I do now?    

​You have completed the online registration portion. As part of your next step, you will need to complete the 2017 Certification Packet found on the Forms page of our website and bring it to one of our walk-in registration dates or before the first day of the conditioning camp. Also, please schedule a physical with your child’s doctor – see below.

Where do I get a physical done? 

​You can get a physical by making an appointment with your personal physician, or you may go to a local med clinic. You can find the required Physical Form on the Forms page of our website. Forms must be dated on or after May 1st, 2017. Physical Forms are due July 24th.

When and where do I bring the Physical, the original or certified copy of the Birth Certificate and other forms?

You can bring it to anyone of the walk-ins registrations. Please check the calendar for the locations, dates, and times. You can also bring it other events before the season starts. Those will also be posted on the calendar.

What is certification? 

Certification is the process whereby the league ensures each participant meets the minimum league requirements for participation. This applies to players, coaches and administrators.

What time is practice?

Al MTJM practices are generally 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. Per league rules, we practice 5 days/wk leading up to the jamboree and 3 days/wk thereafter. Please check the calendar for dates & times.

What if I can't get my child there on time? 

Make arrangements with other parents that live by you to be there on time. Attendance and being on-time are very important to being a part of the team.

Where are practices held? 

Practices are held at Mark Macres Memorial Stadium turf field at Monterey Trail High School.

What does my child need to bring to practice? 

Water jug or lots of water and practice gear only.

As a parent will I have to volunteer my time? 

Each parent is required to complete 10 hours per of service per child at some point during the season (households with 3 or more are capped at 20 hours max). This program is solely run by volunteers. This is mandatory and completing your parent hours is required. When you are scheduled to work a shift, you will still need to pay a normal entrance fee for both home and away games.

Will I have to work during my child's game? 

Typically not. We encourage you to sign up for your volunteer hours early.

How do I sign up for volunteer hours?
 

Our Volunteer Coordinator will begin scheduling volunteer hours in August - you may sign up for your shits during any MTJM practice. We encourage you to sign up for additional shifts, if possible. The success of our program relies on the continued support of our parent volunteers.

What happens if I choose not to work my required hours? 

Parent volunteer deposits will be forfeited to MTJM if the hours are not completed. Your deposit will be refunded to you upon completion of your required hours. Please email MTJM Treasurer at mtjrmustangs@gmail.com for questions about deposits.

Can I opt-out of parent volunteer hours? 

Yes. During the registration process you may select the opt-out option. The cost of the opt-out is $75.

Are there admission fees to get into games and competitions? 

Yes, there are admission fees to get into games away and home. These fees are mandated by SYF each year to help facilitate each program. This year’s fees are the following:

 

a. 12 & up $5.00

b. Under 11 $3.00

c. 2 & under Free

d. Seniors $3.00

e. Jamboree $8.00, 2 and under free / Seniors discount tickets must be purchased at jamboree for $5.00

f. Playoffs/Championships 12 & up $6.00, Under 11 $4.00 Seniors $3.00, 2 and under free. 

g. All Stars- Benefits Ben Ali Shriners all tickets $12, 2 & U Free

Are there scholarships available?

Scholarships are available to eligible participants through the Elk Grove Youth Scholarship Foundation. Players must first be registered with the Monterey Trail Jr Mustangs before applying for the scholarship. The application period is April 1st - June 30. Scholarships are awarded on a first-come first-served basis, so be sure to complete your MTJM registration early. Please visit www.egysf.org to apply after completing your registration and payments. How many games are there? 

Typically, a season will consist of the league Jamboree (4-game scrimmage day), 8-9 season games; and a possibility to go to the playoffs, and the championship game.

Are the games on Sunday? 

All regular season games will be played on Saturdays. Occasionally, playoff and championship games are scheduled for Sundays. Please check the calendar for this season’s game schedule.

Where do we play our games? 

Mark Macres Memorial Stadium at Monterey Trail High School is our home field. However, we do have away games that are noted on the MTJM website calendar.

How do I clean the football and cheer uniforms? 

DO NOT BLEACH any of the uniforms - OXYCLEAN may be used only. DO NOT DRY Football Jersey or the Cheer shell in a dryer, air dry only - DO NOT DRY CLEAN. After practice each day please allow football pads and helmet to air dry outside of your equipment bag.

Who is SYF? 

SYF-Sacramento Youth Football is a shell league name, where each team agrees to play with the same set of rules. Please contact our own association with any questions or concerns.

EGYSF Scholarships for Football & Cheer

The EGYSF scholarship application is now open. The application period is from April 1st - June 30th.

To apply for the scholarship:


1) Complete 2016 Jr Mustangs registration online by visiting our website at http://www.montereytrailjrmustangs.com/page/show/1611306-register 

2) Go online at www.egysf.org to complete the scholarship application after completing MTJM registration.

3) The Jr Mustangs will notify you if/when your scholarship application has been approved. The amount of the scholarship won't be known until the EGYSF sends us the check and final recipient list - usually sometime around the end of August. When we receive the check from the EGYSF we will issue refunds to the approved recipients.

4) You may follow up with the Jr Mustangs regarding your scholarship status. Please do not call the EGYSF to follow up on your application. Doing so jeopardizes the scholarship program for all of our participants. The EGYSF prefers that all applicants communicate with their youth program regarding status of the application.

***The EGYSF application period is from April 1st - June 30th. 

We will do our best to assist you through the scholarship process within the parameters set by the EGYSF.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To recognize the people who have died from and/or are fighting the terrible disease of cancer, all MTHS & MTJM football players will be wearing a Pink ribbon sticker on the back of their helmets for the rest of the season.

Here are some options if you are interested in donating to the fight against cancer & cancer research to find a cure, in no particular order, with some information on each. The first four directly benefit those in the greater Sacramento area.

1. Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development

Shriners serves seriously ill children (burns, cancer, cleft palate, orthopedic/spine, etc), who have no other healthcare options. The family’s of children treated by the Shriners are not charged for their care. Shriners is funded through grants and donations.
If choosing Shriners, please attach a note asking that the funds being donated be directed to the Sacramento facility.

2. UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center

The Ronald McDonald House is part of the UCDMC program. Donations can be mailed or made online.

EGYSF Scholarship Information

Scholarships are available to eligible athletes through the Elk Grove Youth Scholarship Foundation. Please visit their website at http://www.egysf.org/ for more information.

Application period is April 1st – June 30th. Following are instructions for the scholarship application:

1) Complete the 2014 Jr Mustangs registration packet.

2) Pay registration fees in full. Deposits do not need to be paid prior to applying for the scholarship. (Volunteer deposits due June 4th and equipment deposits due June 19th. Cheer uniform fees and competition fees are due July 19th.)

3) Go online at www.egysf.org to complete the application AFTER your paperwork and registration fees have been paid.

4) The Jr Mustangs will notify you if/when your application has been approved. The amount of the scholarship will not be known until the EGYSF sends us the check and final recipient list – usually in August or September. When we receive the check from the EGYSF we will issue refunds to the approved recipients.
